Hillside Strong: Research & Outcomes
Hillside is committed not only to serving the evolving needs of vulnerable youth, adults and families, but to measuring the impact of those services to ensure that our work is of the highest quality possible. Through data-driven research, contributions to the field, and a commitment to implementing evidence-based and best practices, we’re able to create and sustain industry-leading programs that help families meet life’s most difficult challenges.
Research Studies and Contributions to the Field
Research- and evidence-informed programs at Hillside are designed to address the needs of children, adults, and families. To support that goal, our research and evaluation projects use methodological designs, test specific questions/hypotheses, and follow scientific research processes. Our agency conducts original research and program evaluations, while also partnering with external researchers throughout the country.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FIELD: The acquisition and dissemination of knowledge is essential to implementing research- and evidence-informed programs and testing the impact of those programs. The results of Hillside’s research work are published in journal and books, and presented to peer organizations around the country.
Evidence-Based and Best Practice Solutions
As part of our commitment to providing the highest quality services, we strive to deliver evidence-based practices (EBPs) and best practice solutions across our continuum of care. That focus supports positive outcomes that translate into long-term health and wellbeing for youth, adults and families we serve.

Hillside programs and services incorporate data-driven methods that enable the continuous review of our performance, and the measurement of true and meaningful impact. This consistent emphasis on measurement allows our agency to create the best possible outcomes with the highest value.
Each year, Hillside publishes Outcomes Reports to track the measurable performance of agency-wide programs and priorities. Learn more
ANALYZING SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH
Hillside has adopted a new tool to capture information related to Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). The Accountable Health Communities Health-Related Social Needs Screening Tool, developed by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, is used to better align evidence-based and -informed services to meet identified needs in the context of SDOH, and to evaluate the impact of our services on reducing disparities and improving equity. Data from this tool will be shared in future Outcomes Reports.
Value Measures
Hillside uses value measures to improve the programs and services we provide to youth, families and the community. Value balances a program’s success rate with the actual cost of delivering those outcomes. This allows Hillside to determine if the program is improving on the measures that matter the most for those being served, and to evaluate how much positive social impact is created for every dollar invested in the program.
