Residential Treatment Services

For youth and families facing emotional, behavioral and social challenges, Hillside offers round-the-clock preventive and interventional care – whenever and wherever that care may be most needed. In varied settings throughout Western and Central New York and the Southern Tier, our teams provide customized treatment designed to address the issues related to a youth’s personal life situation, coupled with ongoing assessments to ensure each child is on a path to achieve their goals.

Hillside Strong: CARE @ Hillside

Hillside embraces the Children and Residential Experiences model of service delivery. CARE applies recognized best practices to all dimensions of engagement with youth and families, to create a shared agency-wide perspective that improves the quality of our services and the outcomes for those in need.

This program seeks to provide short-term, out-of-home planned respite for children and families in order to stabilize and preserve placement within the home and prevent out of home placement.

Hillside’s DAS program provides the highest level of support to individuals who have cognitive limitations, mental health concerns and exhibit behavior challenges. Specialized units offer skills development and family services to youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

These services provide individualized, trauma-informed, structured, therapeutic residential services that are of high-quality, evidence-based, ethical, comprehensive, strength-based, and culturally relevant. Services include a range of therapeutic social, recreational, educational services together with individual, group and family therapy.

Hillside’s Critical Care program provides intensive residential care to emotionally and behaviorally challenged youth and their families by combining a highly structured, therapeutic group living experience with individualized treatment. Our Finger Lakes GROW Critical Care program specializes in serving young women who have experienced significant trauma.

Hillside’s IRA group homes provide a community-based residential setting for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health diagnoses, including autism. Hillside has nine IRAs located throughout Monroe, Wayne and Erie counties. The Intensive Support Unit provides an intensive, clinically rich environment for youth, with developmental disabilities and mental health diagnoses including autism, who require a higher level of support than they are currently receiving. The program provides all services necessary to meet the youth’s needs including school, mental health and medical supports.

Because residential treatment is only one step in the care that a vulnerable youth may need, every admission to a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) on a Hillside campus includes preparation for the next steps that will follow their discharge from residential treatment. This program provides ongoing services to help youth and families continue their path to healing.

Hillside’s Raise the Age services, provided at our Snell Farm Campus in Bath, NY, support eligible young men with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and/or a history of sexually harmful behaviors, who have been mandated to treatment following adjudication for a nonviolent crime.

Hillside’s multidisciplinary Residential Treatment Facility (RTF) team provides holistic, strength-based mental health services in collaboration with youth and families to support the goal of safe reunification in the community. Together, youth and family members establish, learn, and practice skills and engage in therapeutic processes to heal from traumatic experiences and regain hope. Hillside also provides treatment at the Finger Lakes RTF Intensive Support Unit for youth who cannot be served in a regular RTF unit. Additional supports and staffing ensure the safety of clients and an appropriate milieu to support treatment planning.

This program provides a collaborative, trauma-informed approach to residential treatment for youth who have engaged in sexually harmful behaviors.

Hillside’s 24-hour phone resource team responds to questions, crisis counseling, referrals or concerns from families and funders.
