July 2017 – Prince George’s County, MD — Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection (HW-SC), an affiliate of Hillside Family of Agencies, has announced the formation of the Greater Washington service region, comprised of HW-SC programs in Prince George’s County, MD, and Washington, DC. HW-SC unleashes the potential of youth by providing positive youth development, academic support and college and career exploration to support their success in school and beyond. The program began serving Prince George’s County nine years ago, and launched a program in Washington, DC, in 2016.
Karene Brodie, Executive Director, Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection, will oversee the new region. “We are committed to our families and communities in Prince George’s County and Washington, DC, and are thrilled to form this single region with a larger footprint and impact,” Brodie said. “HW-SC keeps our youth connected to learning and achieve success through mentoring, workforce development training, college preparation and individualized academic support. We are looking forward to assisting more youth throughout the region, where programs like this are so needed.”
Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection has earned national recognition for delivering consistent, measurable results in improving college and career exploration and employment—helping entire communities, one student at a time.
About Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection: Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2017, Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection serves nearly 4,500 youth at risk of failing to graduate from high school, including nearly 1,000 students in Prince George’s County and Washington, DC. A public-private partnership, HW-SC delivers assistance through an evidence-based model that combines long-term mentoring, job training, part-time work experience and year-round academic support. HW-SC is also active in the greater Rochester, Syracuse and Buffalo areas of New York state, and in Rome and Salamanca, NY.
